Memberships for Makers
Our membership program is perfect for independent artists who want the freedom to create on their own schedule. Members enjoy monthly community events, coaching, and early access to workshops.
We do require prior studio experience to join as a member—but if you’re a little rusty, we’re happy to set up a private refresher lesson to get you back in the groove.
Classes for All Levels
Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your skills, our pottery classes offer a welcoming, hands-on experience. We offer experienced beginner through advanced-level sessions, for wheel throwing and hand building.
Come shape something beautiful—and maybe get a little messy—with us.
We offer instruction in wheel throwing, along with advanced workshops in different firing techniques.
Next Step Clay is home to creative creatures and expression of self with intermediate and advanced hand building classes.
Next Step Clay Studio is the brainchild of Joshua Margolis and Griffin Marsh.
Both artists have been working in clay for a combined 45 years (basically making them the Voltron of ceramics education).
Griffin has 20 years of ceramic experience specializing in high fired pottery. After being kicked out of his high school art class in 2005, he began working at the College of Art in Casper, Wyoming. His work is a combination of multiple firing disciplines including wood, soda, raku, saggar, salt and reduction.
Joshua has spent the past 30+ years working with clay, and 20 years in ceramics education. He has show his work all over the country, including an artist in residence at the de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco. He is also the creator of the beloved children‘s book series staring Melvin the Robot.
Joshua and Griffin met at the Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild in 2021. When Joshua opened his own ceramic studio, Out of Step Clay, he invited Griffin to teach intermediate wheel classes.
Thus the two discovered that Denver had a growing need for pottery studios that offered more than just an into to wheel throwing. Griffin and Joshua combined forces to create a space for members and advanced learners to explore pottery beyond a 6 week class.
Located one block off of the hip and popular Tennyson St., Next Step Clay Studio is a space committed to creativity and growth.
